Andrew Bates was born and raised in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Bates was accepted to attend Boy's Prep School Hockey Powerhouse, Kimball Union Academy (Meriden, New Hampshire), winning a New England Boy's Prep Championship in 2010. Bates also represented the State of Massachusetts as a top Forward in the State, at the USA Hockey BioSteel National Player Development Camp in Rochester, New York. Bates was recently honored as one of the "Top 21 Players of the 21st Century" Honorable Mention All-Century Hockey Team in Boston area. Bates graduated with a Business Degree in 2015 from Worcester State University, with numerous Men's Ice Hockey NCAA Academic and Athletic honors in 2015. 

Bates was at the top of the scoring list and ranked near the top in his class academically. Bates was a Two-Time NCAA MASCAC All-Academic selection given to the most outstanding student-athletes with at least a 3.4 GPA.

Some of Bates' highlights include serving as the NCAA WSU Men's Hockey Team Captain. Bates led the NCAA Worcester Cup in Goals and Assists, and eventually scoring the Game-Winning Goal in Overtime. He was the NCAA Worcester Cup Most-Valuable Player and on Worcester Cup All-Tournament Team. Bates was the NCAA WSU Leading Goal Scorer as a Junior and was named a part of the NCAA All-Star Hockey Team. 

Bates served in leadership positions outside the hockey arena and worked tirelessly on projects as the Class President in College to help increase the overall experience for his fellow students. Bates always wanted to play Professional Hockey and had an assist in his first Professional Game against the Danbury Whalers in Danbury, CT. Bates had numerous Professional Hockey offers but elected to sign and play Professionally in Europe the following season.

Bates followed his love for coaching and teaching shortly after, and was named the Manager of Hockey Development and Retention for the Florida Panthers after signing his Professional Hockey Contract overseas in the NIHL, Oxford City Stars. More recently, Bates served as the Head Coach of the 2011 AAA Florida Alliance and Head Coach with Florida Jr. Panthers and Palm Beach Breakers SAHOF Travel Hockey organizations. 

Bates won the 2022 CCM Chicago World Invitational with his South 2011 AAA Team. Andrew is passionate about helping youth hockey players achieve their dreams of playing at the next level!
